Marketing is tough especially in today’s economy. With budget cuts across the board, marketing/advertising departments are often a target. It may seem logical, but I am here to tell you different.

My advice… maintain or be brave and increase your marketing budget. It’s critical to your company’s success. In times like these you need to be proactive, think long term. Put a consistent message out there and you will improve your brand and secure sales in the long run.

Here are some ideas to maximize your budget: ramp up your PR- contact the media with appealing and relevant stories, volunteer at local events, update your web site, and try blogging (the world may not need any more blogs, but if you have something interesting to say- say it). These are all low cost alternatives that can help.

So the next time you think about cutting your marketing budget, think again.
